Mission Objectives

Primary Mission Objectives
  1. Help an 11 year old design and construct a sensor payload suitable for high altitude balloon flight (25-30km) to 
    • measure and record atmospheric temperature and pressure as a function of altitude
    • take photos at regular intervals during flight
  2. Keep the payload simple so that said 11 year old can do as much of the work as possible
    • Simple sensor suite with simple control code needs
    • Launch, track and recover payload
    • Present results at school science fair
    Secondary Mission Objectives
    1. Use amateur radio to telemeter position and partial data record to ground during flight for tracking and as backup in event payload can not be recovered
    2. Gain experience with high altitude balloon launches both for science data and as a teaching tool
    3. Build material infrastructure for future launches
    4. Build software framework for future payload development
      • For non-simple control needs, encapsulate code with simple API hooks so that we don't have to violate primary objective #2
